BDS ACTIVITY (CALLS FOR BDS)
11/12/15 – John Jay College SJP was one of 10 local SJP chapters endorsing an advertisement for a rally that contained several classic and contemporary antisemitic tropes: it called CUNY’s leadership “the Zionist administration” and claimed that the administration “reproduces settler-colonial ideology throughout CUNY through Zionist content of education”; it suggested that the administration’s ties to israel were responsible for tuition hikes; and it claimed that the birthright trips and study abroad programs in Israel were in “occupied Palestine,” effectively denying the existence of the Jewish state. In addition, one of the endorsers’ demands included on the advertisement was that CUNY “divests from Israel, companies that maintain the Zionist occuption.”
GENOCIDAL EXPRESSION;
INTIMIDATION;
HISTORICAL
3/12/15 – Swastikas and other antisemitic messages were found in campus restrooms and classrooms.
ANTISEMITIC EXPRESSION: CONDONING TERRORISM 11/29/16 – SJP held the event “The Last Hope: Palestinian Resistance.” The advertisement for the event on Facebook condoned terrorism, showing the image of a stone-thrower with the text next to it, “Resistance is not Terrorism.” The purpose of the event was to hear Yousef Munayyer and Arun Kundnani “discuss the history of Palestinian Resistance and why/how israel [sic] and Allies portray it as terrorism.”
DENYING JEWS SELF-DETERMINATION;
DEMONIZATION;
DELEGITIMIZATION;
BDS ACTIVITY (BDS EVENT)
5/22/16 – The Left Forum (affiliated with the Department of Sociology at CUNY Graduate Center) sponsored a talk on campus with Other Voices, Other Choices titled, “A Dialogue on Israel and Palestine with Tariq Ali and Norman Finkelstein”. During his talk, Tariq Ali delegitimized Israel, referencing all of Israel as occupied Palestine. He further supported BDS as one piece of ending Israel stating, “The BDS campaign is important. It’s important not because it will bring down the Israeli government that is an illusion that it will [on its own] bring down the Israeli government. The South African government was not brought down by sanctions…sanctions on their own are never decisive. I nonetheless support them… The only viable long term solution is a single…state”. Norman Finkelstein demonized Israelis and Israel saying that it is “a whole society that has just gone over the cliff” in terms of “brutalizing Palestinians”, accused Israel of committing “massacres”, and claimed the “Israeli army went around and systematically broke the bones of Palestinian children”. He additionally called for the right of return of Palestinians, which would effectively eliminate Israel as a Jewish state, when discussing his view that the right of return is a legally correct platform of BDS, yet not called for on college campuses in BDS resolutions at this time solely because of public opinion.
DENYING JEWS SELF-DETERMINATION; DEMONIZATION; DELEGITIMIZATION; BDS ACTIVITY (CALLS FOR BDS) 5/21/16 – The Left Forum 2016 (affiliated with CUNY Graduate Center) was held at John Jay College with a number of panels. One panel, entitled “Silencing Dissent: False Accusations of Anti-Semitism Against Palestine Solidarity with David Letwin, moderator [Jews for Palestine]” contained antisemitic expressions. During the panel, Letwin called for the “right of return,” which would effectively eliminate Israel as a Jewish state. He additionally demonized and delegitimized Israel, calling it “an apartheid, racist, dispossessing, colonial regime,” demonized Zionists, stating that “they [Zionists] want a racially pure Israel” and that “the reality of Zionism [is that it is] an apartheid regime.” He blamed Israel and Zionism for antisemitism, stating, “If anyone today is responsible for stoking the flames of it [anti-Semitism] it’s Israel itself. It’s Zionism itself.” Finally, Letwin called for BDS. Panelist Mohammed Nabulsi, a law student at the University of Texas Austin, demonized Israel by falsely accusing the state of “ethnic cleansing” as well as stated that in the Jewish community it is “the most Islamophobic racist right-wing aspects of that community” who are bringing up issues of antisemitism. Nabulsi further called for BDS. Panelist Lamis Deek, a human rights attorney from Nablus, called Israel a “supremacist society” that was designed for “the purpose of establishing a Jewish supremacy and not just Jewish supremacy but specific kinds of Jewish people. Zionist Jewish supremacy.” She claimed Israel uses violence, “all for the purpose of subjugating the Palestinian people.” She accused “Zionist networks” of being “critical to building and proliferating and really empowering the Islamophobia and anti-Muslim movement.” She referred to Israel not as Israel but consistently as the “Zionist entity” or “an entity that calls itself Jewish.” She further claimed Zionists controlled and profited from the US court cases involving terrorism post-911.
DENY JEWS SELF-DETERMINATION 5/21/16 – SJP held the event “Rejecting Oslo: Self-Determination & the One State Solution.” The advertisement for the event contained an image that denied Jews self-determination as it showed an outline of all of Israel replaced with a Palestinian flag.
DENYING JEWS SELF-DETERMINATION 5/31/15 – CUNY SJP hosted an event whose purpose was to promote a “One State” solution which would effectively eliminate the Jewish state.
DELEGITIMIZATION 5/4/15 – SJP hosts a screening of the movie “Roadmap to Apartheid,” which delegitimizes Israel by falsely accusing it of being an apartheid state.

New York Post – ‘Jew haters’ spread fear at CUNY colleges
(Description note, “Among the incidents cited by the group: At John Jay College, which specializes in criminal justice, Jewish students have been the target of so many slurs that at lease three have transferred. One John Jay administrator responded to a Jewish student’s concerns by saying, “What are these white kids complaining about?” On Nov. 12 at Hunter College, during a demonstration for free tuition, Jewish students were denounced as “racist sons of bitches,” “fascists” and “Nazis” and were greeted with comments such as “Jews out of CUNY.” One student tweeted at the time, “Full-blown anti-Semitism allowed at my college . . . I witnessed this and froze in fear.” At Brooklyn College, the pro-Palestinian group disrupted a faculty meeting last week and called a professor wearing a yarmulka a “Zionist pig.” Brooklyn College slammed the “hateful” comments and the disruption. At The College of Staten Island, a pro-Palestinian demonstrator told a Jewish student last November, “I don’t hug murderers.” Swastikas also defaced the college’s desks and walls.”)
