||DENYING JEWS SELF-DETERMINATION;
BDS ACTIVITY (BDS EVENT)
|6/2/17 – SFSU Professor Rabab Abdulhadi organized the talk, “Indivisibility of Justice and Global Solidarities: From Palestine to Standing Rock, Puerto Rico to Missouri,” as part of the Teach-In on Palestine: Colonialism, Resistance and Justice at The Berkshire Conference, held at Hofstra University. Panelists included Rabab Abdulhadi, Elizabeth Castle, Madonna Thunder Hawk, Shariana Ferrer, Robyn Ceanne Spencer, Pauline Park and Simona Sharoni. During the talk, Abdulhadi delegitimized Israel with accusations of “settler-colonialism,” while Park delegitimized Israel with the accusation of “pinkwashing,” demonized Zionism itself stating, “Zionism as an ideology of…ethnic cleansing,” and delegitimized Israel with false accusations of engaging in “apartheid.” Sharoni delegitimized the state as being a “settler-colonial state.” Sharoni further explained, “the settler-colonialism framework is important to expose the past, to challenge the narratives that exist…the apartheid analogy helps us to challenge the present and the success of the BDS campaign shows that resonates.” Spencer denied Jews self-determination by calling for the “right of return for Palestinian refugees,” which would effectively eliminate Israel as a Jewish state. Ferrer and Park both additionally mentioned support for BDS.
