  • April 12, 2017 – University of Illinois Jewish Student (Hayley) – “While taking a break from cleaning, we saw a Facebook event go live by Students for Justice in Palestine titled Israel Apartheid Week. We instantly recognized a major scheduling conflict. The event is occurring this week, just like the Passover holiday…Our campus is no stranger to intolerance, so the conversation is important and must not be silenced. I am not advocating for banning Students for Justice in Palestine’s event; however, their event needs to be accessible for all students to share facts and not dispel lies that breed hate and intolerance.” March 16, 2017 – University of Illinois at Chicago Jewish Student (Unnamed) – “It was very shocking someone would try to burn a mezuzah. I don’t think it was directed at me. But there is something deeper at play right now.” Read more
  • March 14, 2017 – University of Illinois at Chicago Jewish Student (Amitai) – “Last year during our conversation about the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement as well as “Israeli Apartheid Week” I asked you what you and the administration are doing to combat anti-Semitism on campus. At that time you didn’t have an answer to that question – now I’d like one.” Read more
  • February 19, 2016 – University of Illinois at Chicago Student (Chloe) – “There were anti-Israel chants in the room along with Jewish students being harassed to the point they needed to be escorted by campus police to safety.” Read more
  • February 19, 2016 – University of Illinois at Chicago Student (Chloe) – “The BDS movement is so closely linked to anti-Semitism through it’s singling out of Israel.” Read more

    Classification Date-Description
    TARGETING JEWISH STUDENTS AND STAFF: HARASSMENT;
    DENIGRATION;
    HISTORICAL;
    COMPARING JEWS TO NAZIS;
    ACCUSING JEWS OF INVENTING OR EXAGGERATING THE HOLOCAUST;
    DEMONIZATION
    3/18/17 – More antisemitic fliers were found at the campus library for the second time in a week. The new fliers, while using the same font and type as the previous fliers, were different in messaging as they used language that denied the Holocaust, accused Jews of receiving preferential treatment at U.S. universities because of wealthy Jewish donors, and compared the Gaza Strip to Auschwitz, as well as included “#BlackLivesMatter,” “#WeAreAllMuslim” and “#StandWithPalestine.” Dozens of the posters were found. One poster with the headline of “Nazism versus Zionism” contained comparison images of a concentration camp and Gaza and the words: “The largest Concentration Camp in the world today is owned and operated by Zionists. Standing up for Palestine is not anti-semitic. It is not defamatory. It does not insult anyone. It is Social Justice. #BlackLivesMatter #WeAreAllMuslim #StandWithPalestine.” Another poster said, “You are allowed to believe…We never went to the moon, the Queen is a shape shifting reptilian, and ‘the Globalists’ put chemicals in the water to make the frogs gay…But when you question the 6 million [referring to the number of Jewish deaths in the Holocaust] they put you in jail in 17 countries. Believing crazy things is not a crime. Expressing a dissenting opinion about history is not a crime either. It is a human right.” A third poster entitled “Who is Steven Salaita?…And why does the University of Illinois not want YOU to hear him? Steven Salaita was unhired from the University after Tweeting about the ongoing genocide in Palestine. He lost his tenure and his house. Chancellor Phyllis Wise met with a wealthy Jewish Donor in Chicago before the decision to dump Salaita….The University of Illinois payed $875,000 to settle the case…Maybe Jewish ‘donations’ to the University come at too high a price. Questioning the influence of the university donors is not anti-Semitic. It is not defamatory. It does not insult anyone. It is social justice.” The poster included the hashtags “#BlackLivesMatter #WeAreAllMuslim #IStandWithSteven.” The last posterm, titled “Ending White Priviledge…”, contained the text: “Privilege is the special rights and advantages that are available only to a person or group or people. If Jewish Americans make up 2% of the Jewish population…Why do they get a special Privilege when it comes to top universities? [which is then followed by a graph showing the percentage of Jewish students at top universities.]…Ending White Privilege…Intersects Ending Jewish Privilege. Challenging White Privilege and Jewish Privilege is not anti-Semitic. It is not defamatory. It does not insult anyone. It is Social Justice #BlackLivesMatter #WeAreAllMuslim #WhitePrivilege.”
    HARASSMENT;
    DENIGRATION;
    HISTORICAL
    3/14/17 – A poster found in multiple places throughout campus, including the library, said, “Ending White Privilege…Starts with Ending Jewish Privilege” and included a pyramid diagram with Jews at the top (identified with Jewish star icons). the poster read, “Is the 1% straight, white, male or is the 1% Jewish” and “If there were 1000 people in the United States…10 of them would be in the top 1%, 20 of them would be Jewish.” The pyramid also identified the “99%” as “*goyim not drawn to scale.”
    VERBAL ASSAULT;
    DENYING JEWS SELF-DETERMINATION;
    BDS ACTIVITY (BDS VOTE)
    2/15/16 – UIC’s Undergraduate Student Government Assembly voted on an anti-Israel divestment resolution, but after watering it down so it became merely a universal statement of principles, and not a condemnation of Israel specifically, it passed unanimously, 14-0. Following the resolution’s passage, anti-Israel students chanted “Free Palestine,” and, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” A UIC Jewish student said he and several friends “had to be escorted to another exit by campus police while they had jeering laughter and insults hurled at them by the mob.”
    BDS ACTIVITY: BDS EVENT 4/5/16 – JVP tabled in support of the upcoming “#UofCDivest” resolution in which BDS pamphlets and fliers were available.
    BDS VOTES 2/8/16 – The coalition of students for the #UICDivest campaign proposed its divestment resolution to the Undergraduate Student Government Assembly at the SGA meeting.
    CALLS FOR BDS 1/28/16 – SJP UIC announced the start of a divestment campaign in a FB post and fundraising drive.

She was forced to resign after she destroyed emails that belong to the public record that show the meeting. The University of Illinois payed $875,000 to settle the case. That passage is being promoted by anti-Israel activists, including Jewish Voice for Peace, as a major victory for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campus movement. But passage of the resolution isn’t the real story. The real story is that the resolution that passed did not single out Israel, and applied to any and all alleged human rights abuses anywhere in the world, specifically also mentioning the United States, China, Britain and other countries. As such, the watered-down resolution amounted to a universal statement of principles, not a condemnation of Israel. The UIC Coalition for Peace, which included pro-Israel students, can claim this as a victory for fair treatment of Israel.”)
