    TARGETING JEWISH STUDENTS AND STAFF: VERBAL ASSAULT;
    DENIGRATION;
    HISTORICAL;
    ACCUSING JEWS OF INVENTING OR EXAGGERATING THE HOLOCAUST;
    DEMONIZATION
    3/15/17 – An antisemitic voicemail message was left for a librarian at the university. The message came after the librarian helped organize an exhibit on the Holocaust at a local museum. According to a transcript of the call in Huffington Post, the unidentified male caller accused the librarian of “white genocide,” called the Holocaust a “f*ck*ng lie” and said Jews “maybe better run for the exits because people are finding out you’ve been extorting money and extorting Palestine for a century” and accused Jews of running the “slave trade.” In the transcript the caller said there was “no evidence of gas chambers, no evidence of mass graves. The Nazis just wouldn’t have had the resources to dig up these mass graves, pound them into dust, and then scatter it everywhere. They were fighting a war on three fronts…It’s ridiculous…[inaudible]… you use [the Holocaust] as a club to bash white people over the head. You openly advocate for white genocide and you’re not silenced on that but any contradictions to the ‘Holohoax’ and you go apeshit. hey were fighting a war on three fronts. It’s ridiculous…[inaudible]… you use this as a club to bash white people over the head. You’re flipping your shit all over the cage and everything, screaming “anti-Semite” and “Nazi” and all this other f*ck*ng stupid shit. It’s all a f*ck*ng lie and it’s being exposed and I think maybe you guys maybe better run for the exits because people are finding out you’ve been extorting money and extorting Palestine for a century. So it’s all over. We need to get these Holocaust studies stopped because they’re f*ck*ng lies, just like Jews ran the slave trade. You said whites ran it but you’re not white, and Jews aren’t white, and you ran the slave trade. So it’s all coming to bare. So I would get really nervous if I was you.”
    SUPPRESSION OF SPEECH/MOVEMENT/ASSEMBLY;
    DELEGITIMIZATION
    11/14/16 – A group of around 10 protesters affiliated with Students for Justice in Palestine disrupted a talk by an Israeli LGBTQIA activist by performing a planned walkout. Prior to the Q&A period, the protesters stood up wearing tape over their mouths and signs reading “No Pride in Apartheid” before leaving the room.
    ANTISEMITIC EXPRESSION: HISTORICAL 2/21/17 – The Student Union president filed a report to the Office of Campus Life and the Constitutional Council regarding four members of the Student Union who allegedly made antisemitic and sexually inappropriate remarks.
    DENYING JEWS SELF-DETERMINATION 1/26/17 – SJP circulated a New Member Application which stated that the organization’s “purpose at Wash U is to demand accountability for institutional Zionism.” The application included SJP’s Points of Unity, which deny Jews self-determination by calling for an end to Israel’s “occupation and colonization of all Arab lands,” including current day Israel, and for the right of return to Israel of millions of Palestinians and their descendants, which would result in an end to the Jewish state.
    DEMONIZATION 12/7/16 – SJP held the event “Film Screening: “Pinkwashing Exposed: Seattle Fights Back!” The term “pinkwashing” is a demonizing term that insinuates Israel is malevolently representing itself as a safe haven for LGBQT people in order to hide its “crimes” against Palestinians.
    DEMONIZATION;
    DELEGITIMIZATION
    11/17/16 – SJP published an op-ed in the student newspaper that demonized Israel, accusing a recent speaker on campus, and pro-Israel groups, of engaging in “pinkwashing,” i.e. malevolently representing Israel as a safe haven for LGBQT people in order to hide Israel’s “crimes.” The op-ed goes on to accuse Hillel, Nice Jewish Queers and Washington University Students for Israel of being “complicit in normalizing occupation, violence against (queer) Palestinians, and anti-Arab racism” for holding an event with an Israeli LGBTQIA activist. The op-ed ends with the delegitimizing hashtag, “#NoPrideInApartheid.”
    DENYING JEWS SELF-DETERMINATION;
    DEMONIZATION;
    BDS ACTIVITY (CALLS FOR BDS)
    1/7/16 – SJP posted a response on Facebook explaining why the organization had declined discussions on Israel-Palestine with pro-Israel groups on campus stating that doing so would mean they would then have to “accept Israel’s right to “defend itself” and exist as a (racist) Jewish State.” The post further called on others to support BDS.
    DELEGITIMIZATION 10/30/15 – The president of WashU SJP issued a statement explaining why she was canceling a “Vigil for Israeli and Palestinian lives,” because of Israel’s “racism” and “settler colonialism.”

    (Description note – An antisemitic message was left for a librarian following a Holocaust exhibit.  A transcript of the message read, “…on the note of Holocaust studies – why is it the only topic that isn’t open for debate? And why in many nations in Europe it’s outlawed to even discuss it? If it were the truth then it wouldn’t need laws to support it. But all the information about it is supplied by the Soviet Union, communists. Everything, all the camps, were behind Soviet lines so how can we believe the Soviets were giving the true information when they lied about everything else? Supposedly this is true information ― they didn’t lie about that but they lied about everything else.” So how can that be possible? No evidence of gas chambers, no evidence of mass graves. Um, the Nazis just wouldn’t have had the resources to dig up these mass graves, pound them into dust, and then scatter it everywhere. They were fighting a war on three fronts. It’s ridiculous…[inaudible]… you use this as a club to bash white people over the head. (Description note, “As a Jewish and queer student, I feel upset that my LGBTQIA* peers would denounce a discussion of LGBTQIA* rights in Israel simply because we’re talking about Israel, and I am hurt that many students in the Wash. U. community would delegitimize Israel and the work individuals such as Pinkas have done to advance equality in Israel and to call for an end to the occupation. I would much rather see a productive dialogue as to how we can advance toward LGBTQIA* equality both here and abroad, while acknowledging other issues in those places… I also believe that the State of Israel has every right to exist as a legitimate and democratic nation, and that it should not be held to an unfair double-standard.  As many students have pointed out, we must be careful not to generalize all Palestinian people and those who support them, but that being said, we must also be careful not to generalize all Israelis and all students who support them.  We also must acknowledge that being pro-Israel and pro-Palestine do not have to be mutually exclusive, and only in acknowledging the humanity on all sides of the conflict can we create productive dialogue and enduring change.”)

    The Seattle Times – Recognize and speak out against anti-Semitism
    (Description note, “Fierce anti-Israel and anti-Semitic sentiment has taken hold at universities across the nation; the ADL reports almost a 50 percent increase in anti-Semitic incidents at colleges last year. This year at Western Washington University, several extreme incidents of anti-Semitism caused WWU President Bruce Shepard to convene a special task force to address the problem. At the University of Washington, a small, vocal group in the graduate student union sought to co-opt union time and resources to push a BDS resolution. A month ago, burned pages from a book by a Jewish poet were scattered outside the UW’s Hillel building, a sickening reminder of Jewish books burned during the Inquisition. Too many state-funded universities have allowed hate speech and anti-Zionist tropes to create a hostile environment for Jewish students.”)

    Student Life – Branding occupation as security
    (Description note, “We at WashU Students for Justice in Palestine would like to draw the student body’s attention to an annual event that is scheduled to take place this Sunday, Feb. 14. Co-sponsored by Washington University Students for Israel (WSI) and StandWithUs, a pro-Israel propagandist organization, the event “Israeli Soldiers’ Stories” will feature Israeli Defense Force (IDF) soldiers telling their stories “from the front lines that you won’t hear in the headlines.” WSI explicitly stated that “security will be present at the event.” It is deeply distressing to us that StandWithUs, a group that propagates false narratives and silences critical voices, is annually invited to our campus to host a police-protected event. We feel that the event itself and the police presence are part of a concerted propaganda strategy to brand military and police as “security” and occlude the roles of occupier and occupied.”)

    October 22, 2015: Student Life – Pro-Israel, Palestine groups on campus react to ongoing violence
    (Description note, “Wexler also noted that he felt a double standard existed amongst the two groups, stating that there was no discussion on campus of attacks against Palestinians.“Israeli terrorism is never talked about. As opposed to understanding that there are religious extremists in every single group, we only hear a narrative about one,” Wexler said. Felder said that he felt the most important thing was to raise awareness of the ongoing problems in Israel. “The Israeli-Arab conflict is not about an exchange of Facebook posts between a pro-Israel and anti-Israel student group. This is about coexistence and the future of Israelis and Palestinians,” Felder said. “I think [SJP] are a little more anti-Israel than pro-Palestinian. I think WSI is pro-Palestinian in addition to being pro-Israel. Lately there’s been some stuff on Facebook, but I wouldn’t say there’s a conflict between us,” Felder said.”)
